MTV2 Airing of Beavis and Butt-head SUCKS! |

I was a fairly regular watcher of "Beavis and Butt-head" back in the
days when it was airing new episodes, much to the chagrin of those who
were around me at the time. It was, at the time, about the only
half-hour segment of what MTV was airing that interested me. Videos
had pretty much gone hip-hop, metal, and grunge by then (when MTV aired
any videos at all), and I had little interest in them. But the two
animated idiots entertained me and I was happy to sit down for a half
hour and watch them.
Recently, I purchased the Mike Judge collection and reviewed that here. More recently, I've been watching the re-runs on MTV2.
I have to tell you, the MTV2 airings (to borrow the boys' words) really
"suck". To begin with, MTV2 (like most other networks anymore) feels
the need to shove a huge two-headed-dog icon in the bottom right of the
screen, sometimes obscuring the show. As if this wasn't enough,
they've seen fit to show these boxes of text across the screen any time
they feel like it, to draw traffic to their web site or to advertise
some other show on the network. It's annoying, distracting, and
clearly aimed at ADD and ADHD sufferers.
As bad as all this monkeying around with the "content" of the show
goes, they're now sticking "modern" music videos in the middle of the
re-runs and interspersing them with silent clips of Beavis and
Butt-head making faces, etc., as though these videos existed at the
time the series ran. (And of course there's the stupid dog logo and
the text boxes appearing in the middle of the screen, too.)
I don't know who thought this was a great way to run a network, but
they really ought to be put out to pasture or at least given some
qualified psychiatric counseling.
