Today's digital cameras allow any budding photographer to capture high-quality images quite easily and inexpensively. When coupled with digital photo editing software, the finished image can in many cases look as good those taken by professional photographers. Unlike the pros, however, most amateurs can't afford to do their own photo processing, so they rely on discount outfits like Wal-Mart. That's fine as long as Wal-Mart wants their business. Thanks to professional photographers who are worried about customers scanning in and printing their precious copyrighted photos, Wal-Mart's new policy is not to print any photograph that happens to look "too professional". Don't believe me? Have a look at this article: http://www.boingboing.net/2005/06/06/walmart_wont_print_d.html The above article details a story of a poor man who wanted to print some photos of his deceased mother to display at her funeral, but Wal-Mart refused to do it because the photos looked too professional. (Even though they were 50 years old!) Pretty sad that professional photographers have the clout to push amateurs out of the marketplace by claiming "possible" (not "actual") piracy of copyrighted photos...
